Goa's Mopa Airport inks two hotel deals

With the newly launched MOPA Airport in Goa becoming functional, the developers are now focussing on infrastructure enhancement. A recent development in this regard involves the airport authorities signing agreements to build two hotels in close proximity. They have also earmarked the plots where these hotels are likely to come up. While one of these hotels comes under the 3-star category, the other is a 4-star hotel. These hotels are likely to have 200 and 150 rooms, respectively. Later this month, the authorities are likely to come up with an official announcement.

Amidst the rapid expansion of the air traffic network in Goa, it’s imperative for the airport authorities to focus on infrastructure development. The new airport is likely to handle more air traffic compared to the existing one in Goa. Naturally, travellers would need lodging facilities close to the airport for better convenience. This highlights the importance of inking these two hotel deals.

Roots Corp., a subsidiary of Indian Hotels Co. Ltd (IHCL) and GMR Goa International Airport Ltd (GGIAL) have tied up for this deal. This group owns and operates Ginger Hotels, the budget brand. The authorities have also signed a second agreement with a leading entity operating in the food and beverage segment. The brand that would develop the hotel is yet to be decided. As of now, the authorities are considering Accor SA, the French hospitality firm.

These hotels will be developed on 2.13 acre plots. They would be located close to the parking lot of the new airport in Goa. Although a tentative idea about the number of rooms is available, the final numbers may vary. In this regard, it should be noted that the airport has reserved three plots for hotels. Therefore, it is yet to finalize a partner for the third plot.

Reports reveal that GGIAL is likely to charge INR 10.65 crore as a one-time concession fee per hotel. Besides, the annual licensing fees for each hotel would be INR 1.8 crore per year. The authorities expect the development of around 153,000 Sq.Ft. on each of the land parcels of 2.13 acres.

With the two new hotels coming up in the airport premises, travellers would benefit from the easy reach to these lodging facilities. As operations scale up, the authorities are likely to proceed with the third hotel.
